Acrylic.

October 29, 2013:

This painting was a specific commission for a psychedelic brand from England, who gets different artists to do representation of their main character Shayana. This lady is supposed to be some wise forrest shamaness, but somehow every other artist had drawn her either topless or in a bikini, which I found sorta odd, so I went my own more mature n dignified direction with it.
To be totally honest, depicting females and their energy is not my strength, but I always enjoy a challenging stretch of my abilities, as well a decent pay check, so I forced myself to get into this piece. I watered down my acrylics to give her a softer edge than usual, and mixed my colours more pale, to try to give her a more feminine yet strong vibe. But somehow I still think my lady captured my usual yang energy… I did enjoy the process though, and I think she’s hella cute.
The client wasn’t into it though. He thought the painting was good, but that my personal interpretation didn’t capture his beloved character… So I didn’t get paid for this job in the end. Not a total fail, since I came out of it with a nice painting that somebody will buy eventually. Plus it taught me the lesson of not taking jobs my heart isn’t into, even if it’s a fun challenge. Too many things I need to express for myself, to be expressing other people’s concepts.
